In this bachelor’s degree, students learn about core aviation principles like propulsion, aerodynamics, and study aviation materials and structures.听

Plus, Kingston University London’s Roehampton Vale campus is designed for engineers. Students will have access to wind tunnels and a flight simulator, and labs with material fabrication and testing capacities. This means that Space Tech students get practical experience with some of the tools they’ll use鈥攁nd challenges they’ll face鈥攊n their career.

Students in the Space Technology pathway take the same classes as general aerospace engineering students in the first two years of study. However, in their final year, they’ll work on space-related individual and group projects. They must also take the Space Vehicle Design class.

Aircraft maintenance technicians maintain and certify aircraft. They check, repair, and modify mechanical, electrical and electronic aircraft components and systems. They conduct safety checks and select aircraft technical logs and work schedule information. They select and check tools and equipment to carry out aircraft component inspection. They perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance. They rectify faults and communicate work carried out with stakeholders.

In this three-year honours bachelor’s course, students take classes in settings including the University of South Wales‘ Aerospace Centre. The Aerospace Centre is considered a real aircraft environment. It has many of the same commercial aviation services and features grads will see in their workplaces.听

Below, we鈥檒l look at how health and travel insurance works in Ireland, and which options will work for different students.

Travel Insurance for International Students in Ireland

Travel insurance covers the cost of a delayed flight, lost or damaged bags, or medical expenses related to an injury or illness while traveling. It can also cover personal liability if a student causes injury or damage during their travels, and emergency evacuation costs related to medical treatment.

Newly arrived international students can in Ireland. This is true whether you’re staying in Ireland for less than a year, or for the first year of your studies if your programme is over a year long. Travel insurance is valid first-year medical coverage as long as it covers you for any period of hospitalization, and provides minimum coverage amounts of 鈧�25,000 for accident and 鈧�25,000 for disease.

After the first year, non-EEA (European Economic Area) students planning to stay in Ireland must buy private medical insurance for any subsequent years.

Popular English Proficiency Tests

All four tests we discuss below are widely accepted ways to demonstrate your English proficiency.

is the world’s most popular English test for higher education. It’s delivered in over 140 countries and trusted by over 12,000 organizations. IELTS is popular among international students planning to study in countries like Australia, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

is recognized by over 13,000 institutions in over 200 countries. TOEFL’s iBT (Internet-Based Test) is the current standard format. TOEFL results are most widely accepted in North America, though it’s increasingly accepted worldwide.

is trusted by over 4,000 academic institutions. Test takers like its two-hour format, flexible setting (at a test centre or at home), and results often delivered within two days. Because Pearson offers multiple tests, to determine which option suits you.

(DET) is an affordable and convenient option. Because it’s taken online, test takers can take it anytime, anywhere. Plus, most people will get their results in two days. DET is accepted by over 6,000 academic institutions.

Test Length and Format

Let’s look at how long these tests are, and how you can take them:

You can write the IELTS Academic on paper or a computer, and will have up to 2 hours and 45 minutes to write it. Some institutions may accept IELTS results from the remote online test. However, others require applicants to write their test at a test centre.

The TOEFL iBT test takes two hours. You may complete the TOEFL test at an authorized test centre, or at home with the TOEFL Home Edition.

PTE Academic is a two-hour, computer-based test. If you plan to study in the UK in a course that’s below degree level, you may take the PTE Academic UKVI test instead.

You’ll take DET online, and have one hour to complete it. It’s monitored by a combination of human proctors and AI software to verify test takers’ identity and prevent cheating.听

Test Scoring Systems

Every English proficiency test has a different scoring system. Scoring changes periodically, so always check the test’s official website for the latest information.

IELTS

Scored from 0 to 9, with 9 representing experts, and 0 representing someone who didn’t complete the test. Individual sections are graded individually, and their total score is then converted to the IELTS band score. Scores are listed in whole or half bands.

TOEFL iBT

As of January 2026, TOEFL . Test writers receive four section scores, and an overall score. To get the overall score, proctors average your score in each section, rounding to the nearest half band. Scores are valid for two years.

While TOEFL shifts to its new scale, students who take the test before January 2028 will also receive an overall score using the 0-120 scale.

PTE

The scoring scale runs from 10 to 90. Scores between 10 and 29 align with an (CEFR). At the top of the scale, scores of 85 to 90 align with CEFR skill level C2.听 For undergraduate degrees, PTE between 51 and 60. For postgraduate degrees, PTE recommends a minimum score of 57 to 67.

Duolingo English Test (DET)

The DET scoring scale spans from 10 to 160. Test takers receive an overall score and sub-scores in four areas. Integrated sub-scores consider how well you did across production (speaking and writing), literacy (reading and writing), comprehension (listening and reading), and conversation (listening and speaking.)

Preparing for Your English Proficiency Test

It’s important to understand which tests your target academic institutions accept. Some institutions may prefer specific tests, so make sure you ask! You may also be limited by which test formats are available in your location.

Many students study all night and drink lots of coffee as they prepare, but that’s not the only study strategy (and for many students, not a healthy one). Here are six study strategies for getting through exam season and staying healthy as you do.

1. Be Organized

Being organized can reduce your stress. Strategies to stay on track include:

Creating a Master Exam Schedule: Add each exam date and time to your calendar or planner. Plus, keep a printed calendar or sheet of paper with your exam schedule at your desk or study spot. This visual reminder helps you see what’s coming, and not miss any tests.

Prioritizing different exams: Consider how much of your grade an exam is worth, and how challenging the material is for you. Save more study time for exams with higher stakes, or that cover material you find difficult.

Dividing course material into smaller pieces: If your instructor shares sample exam questions, write them down and organize the questions by topic. For cumulative exams, work backward from the test day: review the most recent units first, then schedule regular study sessions to cover the rest.听

Spacing out your learning to boost retention:听Consistent, structured study sessions (like 45 minutes of study with a 5-minute break) can than long cram sessions.听

2. Reward Yourself

Give yourself a small reward after reaching a study milestone. This can be time to see friends, a movie, or a night out. Supporting Documents for Your Australian Student Visa

As part of your visa application, you’ll need to share a selection of supporting documents. To determine which documents you need, use the Department of Home Affairs鈥� . It will give you a list, based on your education provider, level of study, and your country of citizenship.

Most incoming international students will need to provide:

• Proof of identity (usually a passport; if you’ve changed your name, you’ll also need to provide proof of your name change)
• Proof of previous study (transcripts, degrees) and an explanation of any study gaps
• Confirmation of enrolment, usually a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) document
• Genuine Student documents (answers to a series of questions explaining your intention to study in Australia and how the course aligns with your academic and career goals.)
• Evidence of financial capacity to support yourself and any dependents joining you
• Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)

Some students may also need to provide:

• Proof of adequate English language proficiency
• Partner and/or dependant documents
• A polio vaccination certificate
• Proof that you’ve appointed someone to on your behalf

You can apply for your Australian student visa once you’ve received your CoE and have purchased Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Let’s take a closer look at these, and some of the other documents you’ll need for your student visa application below.

Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)

The Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is an official letter issued by your university, school, or Vocational Education and Training (VET) institution. It confirms that you’ve accepted their offer of admission and paid your enrolment deposit. The letter includes details such as your course of study, study duration, and unique CoE number.

You cannot apply for a study visa until you have received your CoE.

Evidence of Financial Capacity

You must demonstrate that you have access to sufficient funds to cover your travel to Australia and your living and study expenses. Proving financial capacity includes showing that you have access to funds that can pay for:

• The
• 12 months of course fees
• 12 months of living expenses
• Any other school fees

As of March 2026, students must show they have for living expenses, in addition to being able to pay for 12 months of course fees (tuition):

• Student: A$29,710
• Dependent partner: A$10,394
• Dependent child (per child): A$4,449

If you have any school-aged children joining you, you must add schooling costs of at least A$13,502 per year (as of March 2026) to your evidence of financial capacity. Some incoming students, like PhD students whose children are enrolled in an Australian government school, are exempt from this requirement.

Generally, students prove their financial capacity with copies of bank statements, student loans, and information about any scholarships they鈥檝e been awarded. Lastly, if you’re taking a course that’s under 12 months long, these costs are prorated.

Overseas Student Health Cover

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is mandatory . It provides you with access to Australia’s health care system, including:

• Family doctor visits
• Basic hospital stays
• Emergency ambulance access
• Some prescription medicine

To keep your visa valid, you must have OSHC coverage starting on the day you arrive in Australia, and maintain coverage through your entire stay.

You may purchase OSHC through an official OSHC insurer, your education provider, or a migration/education agent who represents your OSHC insurer. In all cases, you must buy OSHC coverage before you apply for your student visa. Most institutions will give you a list of eligible OSHC providers to choose from.

Any family members joining you in Australia must also have OSHC coverage to apply for a visa, and must keep it valid throughout their stay. The OSHC policy must be issued in the name of the student and their family member(s), and the name(s) on the policy must match the name(s) on their passport(s).

Proof of English Proficiency

Because classes are taught in English, international students must meet or exceed a set level of English proficiency. There are different proficiency minimums for students who are directly entering into an academic course than there are for students who take a pathway, foundation, or ELICOS program before their academic course.听

Dependent Visa Documents

You must provide documentation like birth certificate(s) and a marriage certificate, for any dependents and partners travelling with you as part of their dependent visa application.

Even if your family members don’t plan to join you right away, it’s a good idea to declare them in your initial Student visa application. If you don’t declare a family member, and they wish to join you in Australia later on, you’ll need to apply for a new student visa which includes them, and explain why they weren’t included on your initial application.

Other Visa Requirements

Most student visa decisions are based on the information you provide with your visa application. In some cases, prospective students may need to share additional information. Below, we’ve listed some of the most common additional requirements.

Health Examination

Some applicants may need to take a medical and/or a radiological exam to show they鈥檙e in good health. If 测辞耻鈥檙别 asked to complete a health exam, you must see a doctor who has been approved by the Australian immigration department.听

Biometrics

Most applicants will be advised immediately after submitting an Australian student visa application if they need to , like a photo or fingerprints. These applicants will receive a letter with this information and how to proceed, and will also be able to see this request in their ImmiAccount.听

Students will have 14 days to provide biometrics, so arrange an appointment quickly by following the instructions in the request letter.

Interview

While the information you submit is usually sufficient, an interview might be required in some cases.

Welfare Arrangement

If 测辞耻鈥檙别 under 18, you must have a student guardian who is either travelling to Australia with you or is already living in Australia. The legal guardian must be:

• A parent
• A legal custodian

• A relative over the age of 21 who meets the Department鈥檚 eligibility requirements

The guardian must have enough money to support you as well as themselves. They must also be able to provide accommodation, welfare, and other support. If the guardian is travelling with you to Australia, they can apply for a along with your visa application.

Visa Processing Time

The processing time for Australian student visa applications vary by study level. Currently, VET-level visa applications are taking considerably longer than other study levels to process.听

As of March 2026, processing times ranged from 21 days to half a year:

• Primary and secondary school sector applications: 24 to 70 days
• VET applications: five to six months
• Higher education applications: 21 days to 4 months
• Postgraduate research applications: 26 to 82 days

Throughout the year, average visa application processing times can vary due to volume and policy changes.听

Visa Decisions

You’ll be notified about the visa decision in writing once your application is processed. If your application is rejected, the notification will include why, and whether you may have the decision reviewed.

If your visa is approved, the communication will include:

• The visa grant number
• The date the visa expires
• The visa conditions, which you must uphold throughout your stay in Australia

Since this visa isn’t physically stamped in your passport, keep the visa decision letter with you while travelling to and from Australia, and throughout your stay.

Pathway and Foundation Courses

These kinds of courses provide the skills international students need to thrive in higher education programs. Pathway courses include English-language preparation, Foundation studies, and international master’s qualifying programmes.

Though this may sound expensive, medical costs in the US can add up fast. For example, depending on the level of care, a trip to the emergency department of a mid-sized hospital in 2025 鈥攁nd that doesn’t include fees for Emergency Department physicians.听Even a flu shot can for folks without insurance, although you can find no- and low-cost options for common vaccines at doctors’ offices, pharmacies, and through schools or community organizations.

Health Insurance for International Students with F and M Visas

International students holding F and M student visas must cover all medical costs incurred during their time in the US. Wondering which visa you’ll need? Here’s how the U.S. Department of Homeland Security outlines :

• F-1 visa: For students taking an academic program, including English language programs, at an academic institution (including universities, colleges, high schools, private elementary schools, conservatories, and seminaries).

To protect international students and their families, minimum levels of health insurance coverage have been established by the federal government.听

As of 2026, at minimum, :

• Medical benefits of at least US$100,000 per illness or accident (higher is better)
• A maximum deductible of US$500 per condition per plan year
• Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to their home country up to US$50,000
• Minimum 75% coverage for each accident or illness (which means the student pays up to 25% of expenses but no more)
• Repatriation of remains up to US$25,000

Additionally, the insurance company underwriting the policy to ensure students are adequately protected.听

Your health insurance as a J visa holder must be current and adequate for your entire time in the US. In fact, US government regulations require that J visas are terminated if a J-1 exchange visitor or their J-2 dependent willfully fails to remain in compliance with insurance requirements.
